Bishop Paul McAleenan blesses new chapel at Divine Saviour Primary School, Abbots Langley

On Wednesday 11th September Bishop Paul McAleenan came to celebrate the first Mass of our new academic year and, most importantly, to bless and open our new school chapel. It was a most wonderful occasion and one that will live long in our memory! We were also joined by three of the Sisters of the Divine Saviour, who travelled from their convent in Bristol to be with us.

We are very grateful to Sister Maria Yaneth Moreno, Superior General of the Salvatorian Sisters who presented us with a relic of Blessed Mary of the Apostles which, along with a relic of St Teresa of Calcutta has a special place in the plinth of the tabernacle, secured beneath a glass cover where they can be seen. The special presence of these two women of God within our school has inspired our children to rename the school house teams and along with these two great women they chose St Oscar Romero and St Maximillian Kolbe.

The Mass of blessing was quite a gathering and quite a celebration! At the beginning of our mass, a representative from all sections of our school and wider community processed with Bishop Paul and Father Richard Mway (SDS) to our new chapel, situated right of the heart of our school, to bless the chapel and the tabernacle. Through the miracle of modern technology, the whole school was able to be part of the liturgy as they watched a live feed of the blessing from the school hall.

Our Chapel is such a beautiful space and we are sure it is going to add tremendously to the faith life of our school. Our Year 6 chaplains were very lucky to be commissioned and blessed by Bishop Paul in the new school chapel and were inspired as they promised to keep the love of Christ at the heart of all that we do, as our chapel is at the heart of our school building.
