Choosing a Catholic School 2024

Choosing a Catholic School for September 2025

Choosing a Catholic School

Since the Catholic Hierarchy was restored in 1850, Catholic Parishes have been involved in the building of schools and the education of young people. The Education Act of 1944 saw many legal protections put in place to protect their Catholic ethos, one of which is the right to prioritise admission of Catholic children to our schools.

Catholic schools and academies welcome all who wish to share in that ethos to apply for places in our schools, but will give priority to those who can show they are members of the Catholic church by providing proof of Baptism, usually a Baptismal certificate. Some schools which are oversubscribed with Catholics may also ask for a Certificate of Catholic Practice (CCP).

All Catholic schools and academies run their own admissions process and applicants are advised to read the particular policy for each school to which they might apply.

As it is the parents who have given life to their children, on them lays the gravest obligation to educate the family. They must be recognised as being primarily and principally responsible for their education.
