Teaching as a career
The Catholic Church has had schools
in this country for over 175 years, providing education for young Catholics but also for all the other children in the local area
who benefit from the strong ethos
and excellent standards.
We need our young Catholics to choose teaching as a profession and as a vocation in order to keep our Catholic schools a reality
Supporting New Staff
New staff need support in many areas. We aim to support them through their first years of teaching to develop a strong subject knowledge base for RE and understanding
of what makes a Catholic school different.
Funding for training is available to Schools who meet the criteria
Into Leadership
Middle leaders have developed their
practice in subject and pastoral leadership
in their own schools.
In order to be ready for the next stage
of their careers, they need to look outside
of their subject and school,
building on expertise.
Training to teach
To help university students thinking about teaching, we offer paid internships so
that they can get a real experience
of life in school. This is aimed
at students in their 2nd year.
For those who know that they want
to teach secondary RE, we offer bursaries
for post graduate teaching qualifications.
Keep staff
Recent research has shown that many staff leave after 5+ years in the classroom.
We aim to provide the career development for staff which will keep them motivated in their roles, moving into areas with more responsibility and juggling the demands of teaching and life outside of the classroom.
Develop leaders
Assistant heads and deputies who are aiming for headship should be identified and supported
to gain the experience they need to be ready
when the right job comes along.
This could include coaching, mentoring
and secondments.
Headship and Beyond
Headteachers need support to grown in
confidence and independence. Theirs is a
complex role, involving many skills and
they need to be able to access the appropriate
support when needed. Executive head might work in
substantive roles or provide support when needed.
